Congratulations to local volunteer Sue Coxhead, who has been chosen by Oswestry Town Mayor, Councillor Olly Rose, as their ‘Community Champion’ for the second quarter of the year.
Sue Coxhead has been volunteering with the Qube, an established charity providing art, wellbeing and transport services for North Shropshire and Border communities, since 2016 and is a retired occupational therapist.
When Sue joined the Qube, she was undertaking administration work and helped on reception. Over time it became clear that Sue had so many skills they could utilise, and she was keen to help and support this organisation. Sue gave time to support the social prescribing project and was a great sounding board having a wealth of experience, working with families and individuals in her career.
During lockdown Sue was part of the first cohort of telephone befriending volunteers. She was a lifeline to several members, regularly calling and chatting, making sure that they had everything they needed and was always compassionate and understanding. When the regulations eased and face to face meetings were possible, Sue began befriending and supporting individual members, with some very poignant and affirming experiences.
Sue is known by many as a valued and appreciated member of Oswestry’s vital community services and definitely one of our unsung heroes.
Oswestry Town Council would like to thank Sue for her many years of hard work and dedication. She is an inspiration to us all, a true Community Champion.
