An excellent Community Meeting was held on Thursday, 9th February, on local policing and crime, at Oswestry Town Council.
The open meeting welcomed members of the public to meet a panel featuring Helen Morgan MP, for North Shropshire; John Campion, West Mercia Police & Crime Commissioner; Superintendent Stuart Bill of West Mercia Police; and Jay Moore, Oswestry’s Mayor, to discuss the most pressing issues facing the town in policing and crime.
The meeting was attended by Ian Follington, Chair of Oswestry BID, and Adele Nightingale, Oswestry BID Manager, on behalf of BID businesses to raise the issues of recurrent shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and the need to support our businesses more with better response times and an increased police presence on our streets.
As BID, we are looking to progress our funding applications with the PCC (Police and Crime Commissioner) for new projects to run alongside our extended CCTV and Security Patrols.
We would encourage all businesses to report every incident to the Police via the crime reporting portal: https://www.westmercia.police.uk/…/how-to-report-a-crime/ and to sign up to Neighbourhood Matters initiative: https://neighbourhoodmatters.co.uk/
In this way, we can all play a part in supporting the police to gain an accurate picture of crime in the town.
